The story behind Boss Up Culture is the epitome of turning personal pain into fueled passion to help others. Our Founder, Christin Peeples hated going to work for many years. Not because she didn't enjoy her occupation, but the experiences of being subjected to the wrong individuals in management and in human resource positions that made it difficult for her to simply go to work in a balanced and safe environment. She spent more time in conference rooms enduring non-productive criticism and intentional humiliation rather than being able to get valuable work completed. This is just a small example of the abuse of power in action used against her in addition to her being blocked for promotional opportunities and being subjected to multiple unjust financial impacts where merit increases weren't honored and bonuses were slashed. Some might ask, "Why did she stay if the treatment was so horrible?" Unfortunately, as much as she wanted to walk away, leaving would have been a complicated decision. So she explored countless attempts to move to other departments within the company only to realize she had been black-balled and blocked. Those with children can understand where stability is a huge factor in a decision to stay and endure the abuse particularly when a person in this position would otherwise be faced with having to find a comparable job within a competitive market. And there lies the trap that has plagued countless employees in toxic work environments. Is it the fault of the employee that is targeted for such abuse? And why should you have to be uprooted from your career because someone doesn't "like" you? Perhaps the bullying or mobbing began from something small in hopes the situation would resolve itself? The fact is there is no acceptable answer to any of these questions, nor should this behavior ever be tolerated. So Christin took action - Initially following the chain of command which led her to blindly trust "internal programs" to resolve the problem only to have it used against her. Going outside of the organization is where she finally was able to get help. Her life's purpose today is to help others avoid having to deal with the severe situations which over time greatly affected her health both mentally and physically. Workplace Bullying is a very real and serious problem and it's NOW time for EVERYONE to "Boss Up" by making Workplace Balance, Safety & Employee Well-Being a requirement - For Legislation to ensure that Workplace Bullying be made illegal. And most importantly for employees to know their worth by getting the support they need from an organization that is dedicated to seeing them win at work and in life.
"Never allow anyone to dim your light...stand in your power and SHINE RELENTLESSLY." - Christin

It is our mission to bring awareness, eradicate, and prevent the epidemic of bullying abuse in the workplace as it is toxic on many levels. Workplace Bullying Abuse is repeated, unwarranted aggressiveness that causes psychological and physical harm creating a psychological power imbalance between the bully (or mob in some cases) and its target. The stress of repeatedly being beaten down at work on any given day can cause insomnia, headaches, heartaches, panic attacks, stomach ulcers, heart disease, high blood-pressure, and more. Severe cases of being bullied at work can cause Anxiety & Depression Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Alcohol & Drug Abuse, thoughts of suicide and suicide itself. Workplace Bullying is a little more cunning than Harassment because Harassment is a more noticeable form of unwelcome conduct that can happen once or over time. Harassment exhibits more forward behaviors of intimidation, hostility, and/or abuse such as racially derogatory words, inappropriate jokes, offensive remarks about a protected class including stereotyping, etc. Bullies in the workplace often know the difference between Harassment & Bullying, and since Workplace Bullying isn't illegal yet, they tend to walk the very thin line which allows the abuse to continue.
Some examples of Workplace Bullying are:
Continuous personal attacks on one's character not related to their job.
Being given an unrealistic workload and timelines of completion in relation to the target's peers.
Restricted work schedules in which only the target is required to adhere to as opposed to their peers.
Meetings purposely scheduled to take the target away from work - making it almost impossible for task completion.
Blocked opportunities for promotions and positions in which the target is skilled and qualified for.
Merit increases or promotions denied with no supporting evidence.
Tampering of the target's HR file - removing positive feedback to paint them in a negative light for future opportunities.
Blackballing of the target to forcefully keep them stuck in a position or group so that the abuse can continue until the individual quits involuntarily.
And these are just a few examples; Not including the affects it has on other employees witnessing the abuse and afraid to speak up.
Bottom line, this issue is abuse and can severely impact the health, safety and well-being of the employees affected AND can grossly affect a company's costs, production, and reputation. When workplace bullying is tolerated in the workplace....no one wins. Our goal is to support a positive work environment so that everyone wins!
